As we leave the military, we have to ask ourselves,
“What do I really deserve and what am I willing to
do to achieve it?” There are a few things a person must
possess if they really want the things they deserve in life.
Let’s look at a few of them together.

1. Commitment
2. Priorities
3. A purpose or goal
4. Direction
5. A plan
6. Desire to dream
7. A willingness to learn new things

We all are familiar with one through five, yet some of us
have difficulties with numbers 6 and 7. Why?

As a military member we know the importance of a
commitment. We also are aware of how we must
have priorities, a goal, direction, and a plan to get to
our destination. There’s very little time to dream and
many of our personal dreams may conflict with the military.

So you may ask, what is the deal with dreaming and a
willingness to learn new things? When you leave the
military, you will see yourself in a new environment that
play by many different rules. We have to some how learn
new things in order to play the game of being a civilian.
This is where dreaming comes in and learning new things.

For the next few weeks, we will analyze our behavior
patterns. This is crucial. There’s one thing I want to
leave you with this week. Remember, our environment
is a result of our thinking and behavior.

Thinking = Behavior = Environment

Military Transition Resource – Auctions

You may be wondering why I’m posting about auctions. One year prior to my military retirement, I made my last car payment. Little did I know that my gaskets were blown and oil was leaking into my engine. Now, I’m not an expert when it comes to cars and I trusted my mechanic’s judgment when he informed me that my car would stop working in a few months. My plan for having a paid off car upon retirement had failed. I needed to get a car and quick.

I took the traditional route and went to a car dealer and purchased a used car. It was a struggle to come up with the down payment and eventually the deal was closed. I had a car!! I was so happy.

Then on night on the internet I saw a web site regarding car auctions. I had no idea there was a way to participate in a car auction and get a cheap car. I lost out.

Below is a web site that has car auctions and seized real estate that you may want to see. This site may not be for everyone, yet the site has a free search where you can locate a car that is up for auction in your area or the make/model you prefer.

For example, you could bid on Hondas, Fords, Mercedes, Corvettes, Lexus, Nissans, Trucks, SUVs . Once again, this may not be for everyone, I just thought it made sense to share it with you. You may find yourself in the same situation I was in and you’ll be able to benefit on what I lost out on. Check it out. It’s an online auction site:

Military Transition - Moment of Clarity

This weekend, I'd like to share a story with you to help you with your military transition.

When I was with the financial services business I mentioned on my web site at http://www.veteransinmotion.com/, one evening, a speaker made a very profound statement during a sales training. They said, "All of you will leave this business one day and it will depend on you what you will take with you when you leave". My military retirement was within months and a piecing chill ran through my body as I heard this statement.

All of a sudden the thought of leaving the military danced in my mind's eye and I was left wondering, "What was I taking with me as I leave the military?" The question left me looking like a deer in headlights as I sat back in the chair and pondered on what I felt was a moment of clarity. What was I taking with me as I left the military?

The first thing that came to mind was graduating from Basic Training. The next thing that flashed in my mind was every promotion and major award I’d ever received. Last and not least, was the joy of living in Western Europe and seeing places any person would ache to see. The memories swirled in my mind like a swirling tornado. Once everything was calm, I knew what I was taking with me as I left the military. If I had to limit what I’ve taken with me to three things, those three things would be:

· Tenacious will
· Intestinal fortitude
· Stubborn commitment to meaningful causes

As you launch into your civilian lifestyle, remember those times in the military when you had to demonstrate a tenacious will to succeed. With clear vision, set out for the things in life that matters the most to you with tenacity.

Have the intestinal fortitude to persevere and find the agencies or organizations you need to help you with your military transition.

Discover your meaningful causes and have a stubborn commitment to your success!

Military Transition - Transitioning Option

We have a military transition newsletter that is dispatched weekly with military transition tools. This week's topic was regarding programs in place to assist veterans with owning a franchise. There are a great deal of transition programs available and our newsletter will keep you informed on various developments.

There are many options to owning a business. Some of you may pass on the franchishing opportunities and buy an existing restaurant.

Below is an article for transitioning military members who desire to purchase an existing restaurant as their next career move.

Check it Out! Six Traps to Avoid in Buying a Restaurant Business For Sale

1) BACK LIABILITIES FROM A RESTAURANT BUSINESS FOR SALE:

Many times the bills which a previous owner has not paid to suppliers, tax agencies of the government, contractors, etc. can be "passed on" to the new owner without the new owner realizing. Always contact all past creditors of the current owner as to the status of the account. Review the check registers to get a list of suppliers and repair and maintenance companies who have done business with the current owner.
