Scholarship Opportunities and Resume Services

Lack of information is one of the challenges I’ve seen with leaving the military. On a post or base, we have a wealth of information around us. In the civilian sector, information appears scattered or hard to obtain. Use this blog to get the tools you need to start your transition.

One of the key tools military people need are ways to obtain scholarships. The below banner will direct you to a site which offers over $300 million in scholarships. There may be scholarships for military and veterans with disabilities. Check on the types of financial aid you qualify for with this site. Research your opportunities below:

Request Military Transcripts Prior to Retirement/Separation

Request all military transcripts prior to separation or retirement. There's also a form which describes your military duties in civilian terms. It's called the DD Form 2586, Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET). The form is requested through your Transition Officer or Education Office. If requested online, your MyPay pin is required.

Another source to request your military transcript is located below. Ensure all transcripts are kept sealed for their validity. You may want to request more than one copy, in separate envelopes. Once the envelope is opened, the transcript is no longer valid to a college or university.

Check the below link. It's for all services.

Recruit Military - Job Feed

Surfing late this evening, I came across a website that specifically hires people leaving the military. Underneath the Google Ads, there should be a job feed which will periodically broadcast various positions available.

Click on the Register Now Button and see the website for yourself. The Recruit Military website has job fairs listed nationwide. See if there is a local job fair near you.

Many of you have had a successful military career and when we leave the military, things may not appear to go as smooth as we would like. Some of you may feel things didn't go as well as you had planned in the military. Now it's a new era. It's time to dream and acknowledge all of your possibilities. Your success starts with your thinking. So go for what you want in life.

Finding a business, job, or new career is an internal process. You will only have what you believe in your heart that you deserve. Guess what? You deserve the best. Go for your dreams and aim towards your future goals with a ferocious vengeance.

This evening I listened to someone I really admire. This awesome mentor mentioned that often we fail ourselves to success. Les Brown is someone I admire wholeheartedly and have heeded his messages through his books and tapes for years. John Maxwell has been quoted to say that in life we can be looked upon as Failing Forward (recommended book). Either way, we will not know what we can acheive unless we at least take a leap towards the unknown. Visualize where you want to be and design the plan to get there. If you need help, Veterans In Motion will provide you the coaching and assessments you need to get you started.

Your military transition is an empowering moment. It's time for you to take charge of your life and go for your dreams!
